ADVENTURES WITH PANTALAIMON
Pantalaimon sails from Plymouth ( in the UK). She is popular and well know in the West Country. We are committed to providing you with a great experience that you will not forget. Get in touch with us today to get afloat in the most beautiful sailing area in the UK (and some say the world!).
Pantalaimon is a Bavaria 36. She is an RYA (Royal Yachting Association) coded vessel with all of the appropriate safety equipment. She is the 'deep keel' (1.95m) version of the Bavaria 36 range which provides a safe stable platform and is more efficient in sailing to windward than the other Bavaria 36 models in this range. She has 3 double cabins, one head (toilet and shower compartment) and a large spacious saloon with full sized chart table. She has a 30HP Volvo engine with a sail drive for ease of handling. She has a heating system and stereo providing all the comforts of home.
NEW OWNERS COME ON BOARD
Sally and Andy, the new owners of Pantalaimon, have already had a number of West Country voyages and are planning some further exciting cruising later in 2018 including a visit to the Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival in June. Watch this space for updates as the season progresses.
2017 SEASON AND UPGRADE
2017 was a busy year for Pantalaimon. Ownership was transferred to Sally and Andy who are updating and improving the yacht and to enhance your experience onboard. We fitted a Raymarine E7 Chart plotter to the steering binnacle which has made navigation easier from the cockpit. Paper charts are still required to be oboard and normal passage planning and ongoing plotting of position should still be done at the full sized chart table below. An AIS (automatic identification system) tracker will be installed so that other larger vessels may see where she is on their charting and radar systems. Apart from the obvious safety features friends and family will be able to follow the track of your adventures online via the Marine traffic websites. Another nice addition is the installation of USB charging ports for each cabin so that you can keep the essential personal electronics charged to capture photos and memories of your voyage.
WEST COUNTRY WILDLIFE
The 2017 season has been great for marine wildlife. This year we had an amazing hour and a half in Cawsand Bay with a dolphin who fell in love with our dinghy. She kept swimming under it rubbing her tummy on the (dolphin) grey hyperlon materiel of the Avon dinghy!
We have also seen a number of sunfish, a basking shark and lots of bioluminescence while night sailing.
Where did the name come from?
Pantalaimon means "All forgiving or All compassionate". Panteleimon was also the name of a Greek saint.
In Phillip Pullman's triology, Pantalaimon is the name of Lyra's daemon.
CHILDREN SAILING ON PANTALAIMON
Many children have sailed on "Pants" as she is an easy boat to manage safely. Lifejackets are available and there a jackstays (lines) all around the boat. Consider skippered charter to ensure that you can concentrate on having a fun time with your family, leaving the sailing decisions to be managed by one of our friendly competent skippers.
